Billy Ho Japanese Restaurant Review

The Walking Critic | Canggu, Bali | December 2024

There is no question in my mind that Billy Ho is a Will Meyrick gem that I didn’t stumble upon by accident. I kind of bee-lined my way towards it, because I had read so much about it…and it was right outside the front gates of the Holiday Inn Canggu.

On a purposeful rainy-season evening (apparently wettest rainy season in years) when the heavens just opened up and drowned us with a ton of water, Billy Ho was like a magnet that simply drew us like blind moths to a high vortex beam! And what a great place to shelter, feast and imbibe too.

Despite my rain-sodden clothes, this was a Japanese-Chinese mecca at its best. A fusion of Asian taste buds that simply buzzes and works. Décor is fabulous, staff amazing, menu outstanding.

I had a good crack at trying almost everything on the menu and nothing failed except my honeycomb gin cocktail. My mission in life is always to try something new, but this time I stuffed up, royally! Like parachuting without a parachute!

I hit the ground hard. It did nothing to dampen what I will honestly say is one of the best Japanese “Chinese” restaurants in Bali.

A class act from venue to menu and more importantly, kitchen to plate.

Wow—what an incredible review! Reading this felt like a journey in itself, and we’re absolutely honored to have been a part of your Bali experience. It’s amazing to hear that Billy Ho drew you in like a magnet, especially on a rain-soaked evening when comfort, warmth, and good food matter most.

We love that you fully embraced the fusion of Japanese and Chinese flavors and took on the mission of trying almost everything on the menu—what a way to dine! It’s a shame the honeycomb gin cocktail didn’t hit the mark for you, but we admire the adventurous spirit. Next time, we’d love to help you find a cocktail that suits your taste perfectly.

Your words mean the world to our team, from the kitchen to the front of house, and we’ll be sure to pass along your praise. We can’t wait to welcome you back for another unforgettable evening—rain or shine!
