Canggu Restaurants

Canggu Restaurants Reviews by The Walking Critic ~ the travel and lifestyle blog of an award-winning writer, travel guru and entrepreneur.

Writing Bali Restaurant Reviews is hardly a taxing job, particularly if you love food (like me) and have cooked professionally for over 20 years. I also have one of the largest libraries of cook books…not that I get to open them much these days.

The restaurant scene in Bali is as diverse as the island's gorgeous sunsets are —and just as dazzling. Whether you're a foodie on a quest for authentic Balinese flavours or just in it for the Insta-worthy smoothie bowls, Bali’s culinary landscape will have you making questionable decisions (like ordering dessert before the main course) in no time.

For truly authentic local Balinese food, you barely need to look around any corner. However, if that little leprechaun starts whispering in your ear “Bali Belly”, he’s probably thumping you at the same time. Street vendors are less likely to care about hygiene. You’ve been warned. It’s not fun when all orifices go off at the same time!

Bali restaurants are in one word: outstanding. If you haven’t tried babi guling (suckling pig), nasi campur (mixed rice), or the famous bubur injin (black rice pudding), are you even really in Bali? But don’t worry, the island isn't just about nasi goreng and satay—Bali is a global food hub, offering everything from Italian trattorias where you’ll swear you're back in Rome, to Japanese sushi spots where you’ll find your zen (and a lot of wasabi).

For those who want to sip lattes in style, Bali’s café culture is top-notch, with bohemian-chic coffee shops in Ubud and trendy, minimalist cafés in Seminyak. Vegan? Gluten-free? Paleo? You bet Bali's got you covered—just follow the sound of blended acai bowls and the scent of coconut water. Whether you're into fusion cuisine that combines the best of East and West or you prefer a cozy little spot serving up Indonesian comfort food, there’s a seat for you at Bali’s food table.

Put on your hiking boots—and join me for a walk through some of Bali’s top eating and drinking spots!
